38 jurisdictions with a renewal deadline

Renewal deadlines are formulas, not dates

Of the 38 jurisdictions that require a renewal, 28 compute the due date from your fiscal year end, 4 use a fixed calendar date, and 6 run from your registration anniversary. That is why a guide printing one date per state is wrong for most of the charities reading it — and why we store the rule and compute the date.

What this table does not tell you

It gives you the rule, not your date. To get your date you need your fiscal year end, and in some states whether you hold a federal extension — a handful define the deadline differently depending on it. Extensions, weekend and holiday rollover, and the difference between the statutory due date and the state's own operational expiry all live on the individual state guides, because they differ enough that flattening them into one column would mislead.

States with no renewal deadline are absent here for the obvious reason: some jurisdictions require no registration at all.
